Why Choose Levine Bros Plumbing?
We understand that it is never easy to invite a stranger into your house especially when you are seeking guidance in things you don’t fully understand. That is why trust is so important between you – the client and us – the expert plumbers.
Our goal is always to do the best job for you and your plumbing system that is why we communicate with you and advise you in the best course of action for the particular issue. We believe heavily in communication and building a relationship with the client is more important than doing a job.
We are confident that once you have engaged in our services and become one of our family you will feel comfortable and at ease calling us whenever you need plumbing help.
We know the reality is that there are many workers out there who claim they can do plumbing work and are not licensed as a professional plumber in Quebec and they are often cheaper than using the services of a professional plumber. This being said – there is a reason why hiring professional contractors is vitally important and will save you money in the long run.
As professionals we are fully licensed and insured so that you can be confident that the job is done right, is legal and that you have the best quality of materials installed in your home or office and that the work is guaranteed and we will always be available for you in the future.
We have unfortunately seen (and subsequently fixed) many plumbing jobs that have been performed by these so called “handymen” and it had become obvious that they were not knowledgeable in plumbing systems and severe mistakes were made. We have had to dismantle newly renovated kitchens to repair plumbing in walls and we have had to provide emergency repairs to correct improper plumbing that has led to floods and other damage.
Please do not be fooled by unlicensed contractors and demand to see any contractor’s credentials – you will be happy you did.
Levine Brothers plumbing is a family owned and operated plumbing company since its beginning in 1922 and is currently managed by the fourth generation of the Levine family.
We started out as a small shop with Jack and Arthur Levine working with their father and a handful of plumbers providing service to the Plateau Mont-Royal area and we have grown with the help of the future generations of the Levine family, Elliot and Neil to a larger service oriented plumbing corporation. The latest group of the Levine family, Ben Levine, Jacob Bratin and John Walbert are ready to continue the long standing tradition of plumbing excellence and superior quality of service to the entire Montreal area and we are always ready to meet your plumbing needs.
Even though we have grown through the years, Levine Brothers Plumbing has always considered itself as a family oriented company and we treat our employees and customers as if they were part of the family; “we enter every clients home and perform the work as if it were our own houses”. Any member of the Levine family is always available and we will gladly listen and discuss plumbing matters with anyone.
We thank every customer for giving us a chance to enter their homes and to become part of their family and we look forward to welcoming new members to our family all you have to do is call and you will be satisfied… Guaranteed.

Our resident engineer and technical wizard has been asked many questions over the years.
Here are a few of those questions and Elliot’s answers.
Question: I have water heating with radiators which uses an oil-fired boiler. I would like to convert away from oil – what do you recommend?
Answer: I am asked this all the time and with the increased prices of oil it is becoming more and more popular to switch away from oil. However, I believe that the best thing to do is to look into a bi-energy system. Bi-energy is a system with two boilers with different fuel sources, which work in tandem to heat your house. You would keep you existing oil fired boiler and we would add an electric boiler to your system. The electrical boiler will heat your house while the outside temperature is above -13 degrees Celsius and when it becomes colder the oil fired boiler will start and the electrical boiler will shut down until the temperature rises above -13 again.
“How would adding another boiler to my heating system save me money?” you may ask, well the answer is that Hydro-Quebec currently gives a grant for this type of installation by changing your rate to approximately half the regular price for electricity whenever the outside temperature is above -13 degrees Celsius (which is most of the year) and approximately doubling the regular rate when the temperature is below -13 degrees Celsius (which is only a couple of weeks a year). Overall we find that this is the most economic heating system configurations possible today. If you would like more information please call our offices and we will be happy to assist you.
Question: I am told that i need a backwater valve – what is it and do I really need one?
Answer: I bet if you call anyone in TMR or VSL they know what a backwater valve is and why it is so important to have and maintain. A backwater valve is a plumbing fitting that fits on the drainage pipes for plumbing fixtures that are located in the basement and they are basically a one way swinging door that allows water to drain away from the fixtures and into the city sewer but will not let water back up through the drainage pipes and flood your basement.
“Can water really come back through my drains and flood my basement” you may ask, well the answer is yes – there are times of the year when the city sewers in your area can become overcharged for many different reasons and this excess of water actually starts to fill up the drains from the city sewer to your house and could overflow from your basement plumbing fixtures if you do not have a functional backwater valve.
That is why it is so important to not only protect your backwater valve but also inspect it annually to ensure that it is satisfactory condition. If you would like to schedule an inspection and cleaning or replacement of your backwater valve please call us to make an appointment – it could save you a big headache.
Question: I would like to renovate a bathroom in my house – why should i spend a lot of money on fixtures (toilets, sinks, faucets, bathtubs etc…) when there are cheap equivalents available?
Answer: first of all, let me correct your question, they are by no mean equivalent. The most important thing is to ensure that the fixture you are buying is certified or approved by a regulatory body (like “csa”) because it is against the plumbing code to install any plumbing fixture that does not have a proper certification or approbation. The reason for this is that when fixtures are certified they are quality tested and you can rest assured that they will work properly and last you a long time. There are many brands out there that sell certified fixtures which can be inexpensive and you will be happy you chose a certified brand. If you need help choosing a plumbing fixture for your house please do not hesitate to call us and it would be our pleasure to help you out.
Question: Help! I have rats in my house! What do I do?
Answer: I know how uncomfortable this is for you – I have seen my share of rats over the years and nobody wants to see them in their house. There are two issues to deal with once you find evidence of a rat infestation. First – call an exterminator to get rid of the existing ones then you must find how they got in and stop more from entering, that’s where we come in. First a little background – rats are attracted to your house by the smell and once they are in they feel right at home. The only way a rat can smell inside your house is if the drains are broken or a seal of you drain is non-existent (that is why p-traps are important). We would perform a camera or a smoke test to find any breakages or cracks in the drain piping and then perform the necessary repairs. The job could get dirty and messy but it is better than the alternative – pet rats. If you are experiencing rat issues please call us right away and we can start the search and eliminate the problem as soon as possible (which is never soon enough).
